The Puerto Rican Parrot
Many years ago the Puerto Rican Parrot was abundant and widespread throughout Puerto Rico. By the time of arival of Cristopher Columbus the island had a population of a million Puerto Rican Parrots. In the 19nth century the population of the Puerto Rican Parrot started to decline because of the human population growth and the deforest large parts of the island.
Today the Puerto Rican Parrot is endangered because people cut their homes down, keep them as pets, or hunt them down. We can help save them by not cutting their homes, not littering and poluting their habitats, and by donating money.
The Puerto Rican Parrot nests inside a tall tree. The male and female parrot take care of their youngs by: the male getting food, and the mother watching after the eggs or the babies.
